Now sold to 100 territories in total, FremantleMedia International announces a multitude of new global deals for Hard Sun. The series premiered in the UK on BBC One earlier this month and has amounted critical praise from UK media. The Guardian said it was “ridiculously gripping”, The Times “a blistering cop show confronting a dark future” and The Telegraph called it “glossy apocalyptic thriller”. Hard Sun launched on Hulu on March 7 this year in the US.
Jens Richter, CEO, FremantleMedia International commented, “Hard Sun is a world-class, thrilling drama which has received an impressive reception so far, and is now getting the global recognition it deserves. We are partnering closely with the team at Euston Films to showcase this fantastically written series by Neil Cross to audiences across the world.”
Hard Sun stars Jim Sturgess (One Day, The Way Back) and Agyness Deyn (Sunset Song) as detectives Charlie Hicks and Elaine Renko, who, while investigating a murder in the inner city, stumble upon proof that the world faces certain destruction – in five years.
It’s a terrifying reality that the British government is urgently trying to suppress. Hicks and Renko find themselves pursued by ruthless Security Service operatives, who are trying to kill them in order to keep secret the truth about the mysterious cosmic event. The pair must use every bit of their ingenuity to protect themselves and those they love.
When the classified dossier is made public, the government quickly discredits the story as a hoax and fear largely subsides. But the story never entirely goes away. Hard Sun is still out there – in a thousand online forums, supported by conspiracy theorists and the dispossessed on the fringes of society and the internet. And as the murderers, the abusers, the serial killers, the cult leaders start to come out of the woodwork, it’s up to Hicks and Renko to take them down. But what does justice mean in the face of Armageddon?
Hard Sun is a Euston Films production for BBC One and Hulu. Brian Kirk (Game of Thrones, Great Expectations) serves as lead director with Hugh Warren (Thirteen, Call the Midwife) serving as producer. The executive producers include Neil Cross and Kate Harwood for Euston Films, Elizabeth Kilgarriff for BBC One and Jessica Kumai Scott for Hulu.
